This is the practice run of my lightning talk for DjangoCon Europe 2026 in Athens. I recorded it a hour or so before at my Airbnb because I wanted to get the timings right and have something I could share straight away. The official conference recording will be posted separately when I get it. Last year I shared the story of a candidate who used a deepfake on a video call with me. That video has had over 1,000 views and clearly hit a nerve. This talk builds on that story but flips the angle. Instead of talking to hiring managers about spotting fakes... this one is for developers. Because the fraud problem in tech hiring doesn't just affect recruiters. It affects every genuine developer who is now being looked at with more scepticism than ever before. In this short talk (8 minutes) I cover: The deepfake story and why it matters to you as a developer! How real developers are accidentally triggering the same red flags as scammers! What you can actually do on a screening call to stand out! Why community involvement is your biggest proof of life!
