EuroPython 2026 brought me to Kraków for a few busy days of talks, community activities, and many opportunities to meet people from across the Python ecosystem.
During the conference, I shared some of these moments live on Mastodon: talks and keynotes I attended, updates from the Python Steering Council, community events, time spent at the Django booth, and the conversations and social moments that are always an important part of EuroPython for me.
This timeline collects those posts in chronological order, together with the photos I shared along the way. It is not a complete recap of the conference, but a snapshot of my EuroPython 2026 experience as it happened.

After arriving in Kraków directly from Pescara, I joined the EuroPython Speakers Dinner.🍻
A big thank you to the organizers for making it happen once again. It’s always a great way to get into the conference atmosphere, meet speakers and organizers, and catch up with friends who make EuroPython such a special event.🇪🇺
Looking forward to the first conference day tomorrow!🐍

After lunch I attended Giovanni Barillari talk about rethinking asyncio for free-threaded Python at EuroPython 2026🐍
It was a really interesting session with lots of questions from the audience. The very first question even came from Guido van Rossum, which made the discussion even more special.🎤

It’s a nice way to meet friends, especially since many of us now live in different parts of the world🇮🇹
After a conference day it was the perfect chance to relax, chat together, and take a walk through Kraków🇵🇱

The second day of EuroPython 2026 has started!🚀
Right now I’m attending the opening keynote, “The Pursuit of Purity: The Right Way to Do AI” by Marlene Mhangami 🤖
Marlene is a former Vice Chair of the Python Software Foundation, and one of the founders of PyCon Africa . I’m looking forward to hearing her perspective on AI and the Python community.🐍

Right after the opening keynote of the second day EuroPython , I’m attending the Python Steering Council Update.
On stage are all five members of the current Python Steering Council: Pablo Galindo Salgado, Donghee Na , Savannah Ostrowski , and Thomas Wouters 🐍
It’s always interesting to hear directly from the people helping guide the future of Python and learn what has been happening behind the scenes over the last year.🐍

Right now I’m attending “Binary Dependencies: Identifying the Hidden Packages We All Depend On” by Vlad-Stefan Harbuz at EuroPython .
The talk explores the hidden binary dependencies that many open source projects rely on, and why understanding them is important for security, sustainability, and the software supply chain.
A fascinating topic that we don’t often think about as developers.🐍

Yesterday I announced DjangoCon Europe 2027 in Innsbruck during EuroPython lightning talks in Krakow🇪🇺

Last night I joined the EuroPython social event.🎉
I took part in the contest for the oldest EuroPython memorabilia and won a magnet thanks to my EuroPython 2011 T-shirt and badge. It was fun to see so many memories from past editions!🥳
I also spent some time playing pool with other attendees. I’m definitely not very good at it, but it was a great excuse to chat, laugh, and enjoy the evening together.🎱

Today I spent the whole day at the Community Organisers Summit at EuroPython 2026.🇪🇺
It was a great opportunity to connect with other community organizers, share experiences, and talk about the challenges and opportunities we all face when building local Python communities.🐍
A big thank you to everyone who organized the summit and to all the facilitators for creating such an open and welcoming space.💙

EuroPython 2026 is closing with the final keynote: “Was, Is, Will Be: Python, History, Software Engineering, and AI, Our Way” by Paul Everitt 🇪🇺
Paul is a long-time member of the Python community, former Director of Developer Relations at JetBrains, and has contributed to many open source projects over the years.🐍
I’m listening to his reflections on Python’s past, present, and future, and how AI fits into the way our community builds software.🤖

During these three days at EuroPython, I spent some time at the Django booth together with other volunteers from the Django community.🐍
A big thank you to everyone who gave their time and energy to be there, talking with attendees who were interested in Django, answering questions, and sharing what makes our community so welcoming.💚

As at every conference, I met so many people, had great conversations, and took lots of selfies.📸
Meeting people in person is one of my favourite parts of community events. It’s always nice to catch up with old friends, meet new ones, and share a few moments together.
